This photo set of Western Australian XGA Class Hopper was taken by Stew Winston at Albany (WA) over the last few years.
These hoppers were converted to carry grain when they were no longer required to haul coal. I am uncertain when the conversion took place.
(Update) ----- During the month of October 2004 a large proportion of these XGA, XGT class hoppers were cut from the grain trains and taken to Forrestfield were their canopies were removed, so that the hoppers could be used to carry bauxite on the South-West line to Kwinana. The South-West (Perth - Bunbury) line is currently being upgraded so it is understand that most of the traffic runs during the daylight hours so extra wagons/loco were required to maintain the daily tonnage. It is not known how long this will be done, but it has been noticed that a couple of the XGA class working on the grain trains, once again with canopies fitted. It is possible that they were missed or unwanted at the time.
