This photo set of Western Australian XOA Class Hopper was taken by Stew Winston at Albany (WA) over the last few years.
These hoppers were brought down to Albany at the same time the T Class locomotives came down to start work hauling woodchips. Originally XO hoppers they were fitted with ' hungry boards ' and reclassed XOA. 5 hoppers came down at first and in November 2003 another hopper was brought down to be included in the consist. The woodchip train consists of 6 XOA type hoppers and 2 XGH hoppers.
(Update) ----- XOA hoppers, there are now 9 of these type hoppers in Albany working on the woodchip train. Three wagons came down from the E.D.I workshops in Forrestfield overnight, between the 25th & 26th October 2004. It is possible that two more of this type of hoppers will make the long journey south to Albany in the not to distant future, once they have been fitted with hungry boards.
